According to the National Institutes of Health, too much sun can cause skin cancer, the most common type of cancer in the United States.

To guard against sunburns and possibly lower your risk of skin cancer:
* Use a sunscreen that is SPF 30 or greater and states that it is “broad spectrum” which means it protects against both UVA and UVB rays
*Limit how much time you are in the sun
*Avoid peak sun hours (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
*Wear protective clothing like a beach cover-up, rash guard/sun shirt/swim shirt, and a hat
